troubling times ahead for canadians Empty troubling times ahead for canadians

recently their has been talk of corruption in the canadian senate overspending and not really doing anything, the powers to be would love to see this chamber of governement abolished but does the average canadian realise why its here in the first place and what role it was designed to play.

I believe that senaters in canada have grown fat and enjoy ceasers tit a little too much maybe a reset is in order. Perhaps a way to hold our senators accountable would be a great way to go. They currently get appointed when a vacancy is their by the prime minister of the day. Maybe we should be voting these people in, that seems to be the only way we can hold our politicians accountable. I dont think their is a mountie in the land that is brave enough to levy charges against a politician on breaching our rights so the people must be the ones to hold their feet to the fire so to speak.

now from what i remember in school the senate is a very important institution. in canada the house of commons is filed with our MP(members of parliament) these folks are the ones that are voted in they represent what we call ridings and they are usually held accountable every 2-4 years.

the MP are the ones that draw up our laws debate them abnd either pass them or kill them. once they are passed they are sent to the senate were the sebnate is suppose to read them carefully and vote on them if its a good bill act or ammendment its given what we call royal assention and becomes law. But if it does not meet the requirements of the senate it can be sent back to the house of commons with their suggestions and corrections, to be fixed before it is sent back up.

Now if we abolish the Senate their is no check stop against a Majority Governement(a party that holds enough seats in the house of commons to push any law past the opposition based on votes ie. 6 out of 10 seats for example) In that case if their wasn't a senate Emperor Harper could pass any law he wanted and we couldnt say squat until we were able to vote him out but he may have already passed a law keeping control in his hands withought anyone to stop him our democracy could easily become a dictatorship.

our current problem is the senate is full of fat cats that have nursed far too long and do the will of the house of commons and that is not its intention nor its design. Please dont let the senate die, we just need to figure out how to hold them accountable.
